This large country manor has vast lawns surrounding the house with simple, sober, elegant forms to give the land, which is further surrounded by woodlands, more depth. Topiary forms provide points of interest which, in turn, accentuate the approach to the manor house.
Following a recent modern extension to their country home, the clients’ brief was to convert their traditionally planted garden into a contemporary outdoor living area, with the addition of an outdoor swimming pool as a focal point. The entire design was to be structured, elegant and more importantly, the outside space should be synergetic, and in harmony, with the house interior.
Creating a dreamy colour of the pool water was crucial to the clients’ artistic eye, therefore, choice of materials was vital to meet these requirements. The grey porcelain lining of the swimming pool, the fossil pearl limestone, coping detail and key lighting, all combine to create an elegant and luminous vision by day and by night. Strong topiary shapes, both in the courtyard and pool surrounds, extenuate the chic contemporary sensation of the geometric design.
Extend your garden’s potential with a beautiful, integrated swimming pool, for exercise, leisure or something in between. Katja’s experience in the design and build of both standard and natural swimming pools and ponds will make it perfect, for you and the landscape.
A natural swimming pool or pond uses a unique filtration system to keep the water clean without the need for chemicals. A bio-filter replaces the standard chemical plant without compromising on safety requirements. This gives you a living pool with low energy costs, ecological benefits and the delight of freshwater, chemical-free swimming all year round.
A highly contemporary, newly built house, where the atrium tropical garden provides the link to bring the outside to the inside. The complex design of the atrium itself blends into the interior architecture of the house.
Swinging in the bubble chairs, gives a feeling of isolation, peace and quiet in the tropical garden.
The conservatory, used as an office, directly overlooks a natural swimming pond, where the water comes right up to the conservatory. The pond is nestled in soft naturalistic planting giving a wild, untamed feel. Hidden steps lead into the garden, which is overflowing with an abundance of roses and perennials and yields surprises at every turn.
The approach to the house reveals waves of Molina grasses which give form and texture to the vast lawns, and a sense of enclosure to the house, yet maintaining transparency of the view. The design included a bespoke outdoor dining area with barbecue, approached by brick pathways encircling the house.
Flanking the pathways, herbaceous borders of yew with box topiary provide year round structure.
Sunlight filters through vibrant naturalistic planting, with varying heights and shapes, on a slope in view of the tennis court. After flowering, striking patterns of seed heads form strong, dark silhouettes.
